Boston Man Admits to Attempting to Receive Large Cocaine Shipment

BOSTON – Eddy Javier Guerrero, a 31-year-old resident of Boston, has entered a guilty plea for his role in an attempt to receive a substantial cocaine shipment. On January 19, 2024, Guerrero admitted to attempting to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs is set to sentence Guerrero on April 23, 2024, following his arrest in July 2022.

The case unfolded in June 2022 in El Paso, Texas, where a confidential source was handed 23.9 kilograms of cocaine by a Mexico-based drug-trafficking organization (DTO). The DTO later directed the source to transport the cocaine to Massachusetts. Law enforcement intercepted the shipment, substituting the actual cocaine with a sham substance. Guerrero was identified as the intended recipient in Massachusetts. On July 1, 2022, in Boston, Guerrero was apprehended immediately after accepting the fake cocaine delivery and providing $15,100 as payment.

Guerrero now faces a minimum sentence of five years to a maximum of 40 years in prison, potential supervised release ranging from four years to a lifetime, and a fine of up to $5 million. The final sentence will be determined according to the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
