Kenyan authorities have apprehended Kevin Kangethe, a Boston-area man suspected of murdering 31-year-old nurse Margaret “Maggie” Mbitu.

ShineMyCrown.Com reported previously that Mbitu’s body was discovered in a car parked at Boston Logan International Airport in Nov. 2023.

The arrest followed US investigators’ belief that Kangethe killed Mbitu before fleeing to Kenya. The victim and the suspect were reported to have had a relationship.

Kangethe, a Lowell resident, had boarded a flight to Kenya when investigators issued an arrest warrant during the week of the killing.

He is currently held in Nairobi, awaiting extradition to Boston for trial. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the crime.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden expressed gratitude to various agencies, including the US State Department, the FBI, state police, and Kenyan law enforcement, for their collaboration in facilitating Kangethe’s arrest.
