Chelsea Man Pleads Guilty to Illegal Machinegun Conversion Device Sales

Boston, MA – Michael Williams, a 50-year-old Chelsea resident, has entered a guilty plea for his involvement in the illegal sale of machinegun conversion devices. Williams, a previously convicted felon, faces charges of transferring or possessing a machinegun and being a felon in possession of ammunition. His sentencing is scheduled for May 15, 2024, by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper.

Williams was initially arrested in July 2023 following a criminal complaint and later indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2023. The indictment came after Williams engaged in the sale of several machinegun conversion devices to an undercover federal agent in January 2023. According to court records, Williams met with the undercover agent on two occasions at a predetermined location, where he sold one machinegun conversion device and ammunition on January 12, 2023, and two additional devices the following day.

As a felon, Williams is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. His prior felony conviction has heightened the severity of the charges against him.
