Boston Area Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug and Firearms Arrest

BOSTON – A routine patrol by Trooper Niko Retzos on Storrow Drive in Boston led to the arrest of 31-year-old Sean McGrady of Windham, Maine, on multiple drug and firearm charges. The incident occurred on the night of January 20, 2024, near the Hatch Shell on Storrow Drive.

Trooper Retzos, upon discovering McGrady’s crashed Subaru, observed signs of intoxication and behavior suggesting McGrady was attempting to hide something. McGrady’s fixation on the vehicle’s floorboards alerted Trooper Retzos, a recent graduate of the State Police Behavioral Observation and Suspicious Activity Recognition (BOSAR) course, to potential concealed items. This suspicion was confirmed when a handgun with an extended magazine was spotted within McGrady’s reach.

McGrady, found to lack a firearm license, was arrested with the assistance of Sergeant Ronald Clapham and Trooper Matthew Chuong. The subsequent search of McGrady’s vehicle revealed not only the handgun, but also multiple containers of alcohol, cocaine and crack cocaine totaling 21 grams, and 53 grams of marijuana.
