BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP)– A man who tried to use fake passports to steal money from Massachusetts resident’s bank accounts has agreed to plea guilty in a Boston Federal court.
Prosecutors say New York resident Jean Andre Bontiffe, aged 40, pleaded guilty to three counts of bank fraud, one count of forgery or false use of a Passport, and one count of aggravated identity theft.

Court documents show that in July 2022 Bontiffe allegedly came to Massachusetts from Bronx, N.Y., and attempted several times to withdraw funds from three Massachusetts resident’s bank accounts, managing to steal a total of $13,800. He allegedly tried again at a bank in North Andover and used a U.S. Passport and a credit card as identification to withdraw funds. The bank denied the withdrawal due to unmatched signatures and confiscated the passport and credit card.
He was arrested on Aug. 9, 2022, when he tried to pass through TSA screening at LaGuardia Airport using a fake California driver’s license in the same name as one of the Massachusetts victims.
