Boston, MA – The Boston City Council is now accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the Internal Affairs Oversight Panel. The panel has two vacancies, and the City Council will submit six nominees, from which Mayor Michelle Wu will appoint two individuals to serve on the board.
The application deadline is Saturday, November 30, 2024, and residents are encouraged to apply for this important role, which offers an opportunity to contribute to police oversight and accountability.
The Internal Affairs Oversight Panel is responsible for reviewing completed investigations conducted by the Boston Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division. Members of the panel work to ensure transparency and integrity in the complaint and investigation process. The board consists of five members, with two members appointed by the Mayor from a list of nominees provided by the City Council.
To qualify for the panel, applicants must be residents of Boston and have experience in areas such as law enforcement, civil rights advocacy, or youth advocacy. Board members serve a term of three years and can be reappointed for a second consecutive term. Each member will be compensated $100 per hour, with a yearly cap of $50,000.
