Former Tennessee Vols basketball star Grant Williams had his Friday night dinner plans ruined because of an on-court incident with Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum.
Williams, who currently plays for the Charlotte Hornets, was teammates with Tatum in Boston from 2019 to 2023.
On Friday night in Charlotte, Williams was ejected after a hard foul on Tatum near midcourt.
After the game, Williams told NBC Sports’ Kayla Burton that he was supposed to have dinner with some of Boston’s players after the game. Williams told Burton that he even had wings prepared, but those plans were apparently canceled after the incident with Tatum.
“I would assume most of those guys will not be coming over for dinner tonight,” said Williams. “I’ll talk to them again tomorrow. I had wings and stuff prepared so it’s kind of funny that the game ended that way. But I’ll see them tomorrow, we’ll compete again. We’re on different sides now so we’re going to have to compete. On the court, we’re battling, but we’re brothers off (the court). Even if they may think that was a rough play, we’re always going to be together.”
