Power outage, brush fire complicate South Shore commute. What caused the problems

QUINCY ‒ A downed utility pole and small brush fire near Southern Artery and Quincy Avenue left more than 3,000 people without power Tuesday afternoon.

The outage began shortly after 3 p.m. Power has been restored.

A small brush fire appears to have started not far from the downed utility pole near South Street and Southern Artery.

A fire department spokesperson confirmed both the down utility pole and the brush fire but could not provide additional details.

Quincy fire and police personnel are responding to both incidents. Images show significant traffic slowdowns in the area. Traffic signals at Southern Artery and Quincy Avenue and at South Street were out of service Tuesday afternoon.
