BOSTON, Mass — Massachusetts lawmakers are expected to start the new year with a pay bump.
The Boston Globe reports Governor Maura Healey ordered an 11% increase in base salaries.
This could push the pay for Healey to just under $244,000 a year.
House Speaker Ron Mariano and Senate President Karen Spilka would also see salaries of about $224,000 annually.
The Globe said Healey ordered the raises in a letter sent to State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg.
House and Senate members would also see the 11.39% increase.
Their pay would increase from about $73,000 a year to $82,000 a year.
Some lawmakers earn extra stipends for expenses and travel, as well as taking on leadership roles.
The Globe reports Healey’s office used data from the US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey in determining the increase.
Boston 25 is working to get a copy of the letter the Governor sent to Treasurer Goldberg to learn more about these salary increases.
State offices are closed on New Year’s Day.
