It’s been nearly a full week since sanitation workers went on strike across several Massachusetts communities, and trash is starting to pile up in some neighborhoods.
The holiday didn’t distract or dissuade striking Republic Services workers to end their fight for better wages. Instead, it bolstered support with the international firefighters union showing up to picket with them.
“Republic refuses to meet with them at the table and that’s the biggest insult to any organized labor,” one Local 295 member said. “We negotiate our contracts with the city and we know that sometimes you have to fight and we’re here to support Local 25, and we know they’re here for us if we ever need them.”…
