State House Spotlight: Crises on Beacon Hill

BOSTON (WWLP) – An unusual week on Beacon Hill: from response to a devastating fire to a visit from the FBI to investigate vandalism.

Following a deadly fire in a Fall River assisted-living facility, Governor Healey announced steps the state is taking to prevent future disasters. State response includes requiring assisted living facilities to release their fire plans to residents and their families, and ensuring first responders in Fall River have access to mental health resources

“These are steps to ensure that all 273 assisted living facilities in the state are prepared to prevent fires and protect residents during emergencies,” Governor Healey said.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the State House steps were vandalized with white paint splatters and black spray paint reading “divest.” The state police and FBI responded to the scene and investigated a bomb threat on the Common shortly afterwards and are still looking for a suspect…
