Early Monday morning, Boston police arrested 52-year-old Kelly Smoak for various firearm-related charges following a swiftly executed investigation in Mattapan. According to a report by Boston Police Department, officers assigned to District B-3 responded to reports of a person with a gun at around 12:04 AM on Jewish War Veterans Drive.
The police were provided a suspect description and located a parked vehicle to match it immediately upon arrival. The description helped them to swiftly locate and stop a group standing outside the vehicle, one of whom appeared to closely match the suspect in question. A motor vehicle investigatory search led officers to discover an AK-47 style rifle inside the vehicle, resulting in Smoak’s arrest.
At the scene, District B-3 Detectives were called in to process the evidence. What they found included the AK-47 with an empty thirty-round magazine, and in addition, four loose rounds of Remington .224 caliber ammunition that were also taken from the vehicle.
