Massachusetts Police Warn Residents About Nationwide Phone Scam

Boston, MA – The Massachusetts State Police are warning residents about a widespread phone scam after the Boston Barracks received nearly 100 reports of suspicious calls.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, victims reported receiving calls from individuals posing as state troopers with a fabricated “Internet Crime Complaint Center.” Callers allegedly told victims their personal information was being used to commit crimes in China, then directed them to stay on the line to speak with so-called Shanghai Police to resolve the issue.

Authorities stressed that the Massachusetts State Police do not operate an “Internet Crime Complaint Center” and are urging residents to hang up immediately if they receive such calls. Officials said no one should provide personal or financial information over the phone to unsolicited callers…
