One bicyclist was arrested and police have issued a warrant for a second after they allegedly ran a red light and refused to stop for Brookline police, leading to a foot chase near the Pierce School construction site last week.
Jorge Alves Jr., 37, and Matthew Marujo, 31, were riding bicycles and allegedly rode through a red light at 155 Harvard St. around 6:18 p.m. on Aug. 13, according to a police report. Officers nearby followed Alves and Marujo in a cruiser in an attempt to pull them over, but the two did not stop and instead rode through Pierce Park near Brookline Town Hall and the Public Library of Brookline, police said.
“While Marujo was attempting to flee from me, I observed him almost strike children that were inside the playground as he was aggressively biking through the walkway,” wrote Ryan Cabezas, a Brookline police officer, in the report…
