Brighton has been the scene of a series of handicap parking placard thefts this year, but two suspects are now facing charges after an investigation by District D-14 detectives. Andrea Doucette-Keating, 55, and Zachary Shelton, 37, have been implicated in as many as 19 reported incidents of placard theft in the area, as detailed by the Boston Police Department’s recent report.
An extensive probe by law enforcement tracked crime scenes to locations including 82 Glenville Avenue on June 30, and both 95 Washington Street and 34 Fidelis Way on August 14. This investigation led to Doucette-Keating’s arrest on multiple vehicle-related offenses. Evidence pointed to Doucette-Keating as the primary thief, with Shelton alleged to have supplied the tools and distributed the stolen placards, according to the Boston Police Department’s news release.
On August 21, Doucette-Keating was taken into custody at 35 Fidelis Way, facing charges like breaking a motor vehicle at night, larceny from a motor vehicle, and possession of burglarious tools. Subsequently, a search warrant executed at Shelton’s home on September 4 led to the recovery of numerous stolen handicap placards and other illicit items, as stated in the Boston Police Department announcement.
