Carmen DiNunzio, an underboss with the New England Family of La Cosa Nostra, died peacefully on Sunday, according to his obituary.
DiNunzio, 68, also known as “The Cheeseman” due to being the owner of Fresh Cheese in Boston, Massachusetts, was suffering from Type 2 diabetes and heart issues in the final years of his life, said his lawyer.
In 2009, he was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to bribe a state official. The bribe was connected to a proposed sale of materials related to the Big Dig project, and for providing a $10,000 down payment on the illegal payoff, the Boston Herald reported.
