Group protests Walgreens closures outside Mattapan store

A small group of protestors who object to a spate of Walgreens store closures in Boston’s neighborhoods rallied outside one of the few surviving chain locations in Mattapan on Tuesday afternoon.

The protest, organized by a group called Prophetic Resistance Boston, are upset with what they see as a targeted approach to closing stores in majority Black and Brown communities.

Danielle Williams, one of those protesting, said the group also gathered outside of the former Walgreens location in Codman Square on Sept. 10, the day that store shut down. Other Walgreens that have shuttered in recent years include Warren Street in Roxbury, River Street in Mattapan, American Legion Highway in Roslindale, and Gallivan Boulevard in Dorchester…
