FBI Boston arrests over 400 criminals during nationwide ‘Operation Summer Heat’

BOSTON (WWLP) – The FBI’s Boston Division has announced the results of “Operation Summer Heat,” a record-setting initiative aimed at reducing violent crime across the country.

FBI Boston stated that between June 24 and September 20, all FBI field offices partnered with both state and local law enforcement to take down violent gangs and criminals, rescue child victims, and resolve ongoing investigations. Nationally, the operation led to 8,629 arrests, with over 6,500 falling under the Violent Crime and Gang program.

During the initiative, 1,053 child victims were identified or located. Additionally, 2,281 weapons, 44,469 kilograms of cocaine, and 421 kilograms of fentanyl were seized. According to the FBI, the amount of deadly drugs seized is enough to kill 50 million individuals.

FBI Boston arrested 404 criminals during Operation Summer Heat, ranking third in total arrests among all field offices. This division includes all of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

FBI Boston’s Western Massachusetts Gang Force targeted neighborhood-based gangs and open-air drug-dealing locations in Holyoke, where they made 52 arrests throughout the summer.
