E-bike injury surge raises alarms at Shriners Children’s Hospitals

BOSTON (WWLP) – Shriners Children’s hospitals are warning parents and children about a nationwide increase in e-bike injuries, urging caution due to the severity of these accidents.

Doctors from Shriners Children’s facilities have reported a significant uptick in e-bike and electric dirt bike injuries. These injuries are often more severe than those from traditional bicycles due to the higher speeds e-bikes can reach.

“We see fractures and dislocations at our clinic multiple times a week after accidents on e-bikes,” said Dr. Lael Luedtke, Medical Director at Shriners Children’s New England. “We’ve seen reports from health systems across the country about traumatic head injuries, which can unfortunately lead to death.”…
