South Boston Cold Case: Jean Lampron was tragically killed after getting mugged for her pocketbook

It’s been twenty years since tragedy struck early one October morning in Southie.

According to a cold case featured by writer Emily Sweeney in the Boston Globe, on October 13, 2005, 68-year-old Jean Lampron was walking to the bus stop on her way to work around 5:15 a.m. when a man on a bicycle near D and Fifth attacked her. He wanted her purse, but Jean, tough as they come, refused to hand it over without a fight.

According to reports at the time, she was dragged and beaten before the suspect fled with her bag. A passing doctor stopped to help and performed CPR until help arrived, but sadly, Jean passed away later that day…
