Boston public housing residents still await elevator repairs after years of complaints

For years, residents at the Ruth Barkley public housing apartments in Boston’s South End have been struggling with broken elevators that at times have left vulnerable tenants trapped in their home for hours and sometimes days.

The issue came to a boiling point in November, with residents pleading for action at a Boston City Council hearing, sharing stories of elderly and disabled residents being trapped in elevators and missing medical appointments.
