Mayor Wu, Boston leaders speak on local response as SNAP benefits are set to expire

CHELSEA, MASS. (WHDH) – Friday marks day 31 of the government shutdown, and Saturday the SNAP benefits suspension will be in effect for millions who rely on them for food.

In a press conference on Friday, Mayor Wu and other Boston leaders spoke on the local response to the upcoming SNAP suspension.

“In our city, food isn’t a bargaining chip, it’s a human right,” Wu said. “And even before this current SNAP crisis, too many residents were already struggling to afford the essentials. So today, we’re announcing a new partnership to provide some relief for impacted residents in a citywide reach out effort to make sure all of our residents have every possible resource to food and basic necessities.”…
