Boston Police Issue Alert on Risks of Drink Spiking as Halloween Festivities Approach

As Halloween revelers prepare to don their costumes and celebrate, the Boston Police Department (BPD) has issued a community alert urging the public to remain cautious about the risk of drink spiking. In a statement shared on their official website, the BPD highlighted the insidious nature of substances like Rohypnol, GHB, and Ketamine, which can be surreptitiously added to drinks leading to disorientation, confusion, and even unconsciousness.

The advice from the police is clear, and particularly crucial as festivities heighten, individuals should take proactive measures to protect themselves and their friends; one of the simplest recommendations being to always have drinks served directly by a bartender or a server, steering clear of accepting beverages from unknown individuals—which is not to imply that one’s default stance should be mistrust, but that the cost of such trust, in the shadows of the night, amidst the throngs of revelers could be dear. Patrons are also encouraged to keep their drinks within sight at all times and to bring them along, should they need to step away, even for a brief visit to the restroom, thus preventing any opportunity for their drinks to be tampered with.

BPD further suggests the usage of tools designed to detect the presence of drugs.
