Rain, snow & ice: Storm system to bring wintry mess to northeast overnight

A storm system will bring in a wintry mess to the northeast for tonight into Sunday. Some areas see rain, others snow, and ice is even in store for some places.

Much of today remains sunny and dry. Clouds increase this afternoon and we hold off on any rain in Boston until after 7 p.m. Highs stay in the mid 40s, but wind chills again will make it feel like the 30s.

The wind increases tonight into Sunday morning as a warm front lifts through the area. As the rain moves out of Boston by daybreak, the wind and clearing skies take over. Temps manage to reach the 50s, before dropping to the 20s by nightfall.

In the mountains, we see some freezing rain and a winter weather advisory for the slick travel conditions.

Around a glaze to 0.2 inches of ice will mix with 1-3 inches of snow (less in valleys, more on the peaks) in northern Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The advisory is for approximately 7 tonight to 7 a.m. Sunday. Though the light snow continues in the mountains thanks to upslope wind through Sunday night.

Next week starts off blustery, cold, and sunny. Highs stay in the 30s to around 40 on Monday with wind chills making it feel like the 20s to 30s. Our temps don’t warm up much at all as we remain under a cool high pressure system and highs in the 40s into the end of the week…
