A 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday morning after a pursuit that followed a shots-fired report on Southern Avenue ended in a collision between a police cruiser and a scooter believed to be involved in the shooting.
The incident started around 11:20 a.m. on Nov. 19 when gunfire was detected and police responded to the area of 91 Southern Ave near Codman Square. Officers on scene found ballistic evidence and bullet holes in a car and put out a “be on the lookout” alert for two suspects who sped away on a scooter.
Minutes later, police say a detail officer on Washington Street spotted a suspect scooter with two people speeding down the wrong side of Moultrie Street. Officers from C-11 also observed the scooter driving “recklessly” before the operator apparently “lost control of the scooter and collided with the side of the police cruiser.”
The two suspects took off on foot and “were able to avoid arrest,” according to a BPD account, but detectives found a handgun that officers say they saw discarded on Waldeck Street near the crash scene.
