BOSTON, MA — The Boston Police Department on Wednesday commemorated the 53rd anniversary of the death of Officer Joseph M. Mullen, who was killed in the line of duty.
Officer Mullen died on Dec. 18, 1972, when he was struck by a motor vehicle while directing traffic during an overtime assignment at the John Hancock Tower in Copley Square.
He was 61 years old at the time of his death and had served with the department for 35 years…
