A slimmer Route 28 in Milton has been in the test phase for more than two months.
In early October, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation cut down the section of Route 28, or Randolph Avenue, between Reedsdale and Chickatawbut roads from four lanes to two as part of a road diet pilot program in an effort to reduce fatalities and crashes. Perhaps no greater indicator of a need for change was a July head-on crash that killed three people.
Flexible delineator posts, or flex posts, were added to separate the lanes, with portions of the corridor opening up with a central two-way left-turn lane. The program will last through spring 2026…
