Mass. man who ran several sober homes sentenced to prison for wide-ranging fraud schemes

A 39-year-old man who ran sober homes across Massachusetts and insulation companies that received state assistance was sentenced to six years in prison for his role in a variety of fraud schemes, federal prosecutors announced.

In addition to the prison time, Daniel Cleggett, of Kingston, was ordered to pay restitution totaling more than $1.8 million and forfeit roughly $1.54 million, U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Leah Foley’s office said in a statement.

In December 2024, Cleggett pleaded guilty to 25 counts of wire fraud, six counts of money laundering, three counts of making false statements to a mortgage lending business, two counts of wire fraud conspiracy and a single count of mortgage fraud conspiracy.
