Norfolk Sheriff’s Office warns of scam after Milford MA woman targeted

In 2025, people were scammed out of more than $135,000 by entities pretending to be members of the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office, the agency said in a press release.

In the new year, the scams have continued. Since the beginning of the year, the Sheriff’s Office said it has received more than two dozen complaints from people saying they have been called by others pretending to be sheriffs, including a Milford woman who lost $3,900, said Sheriff’s office spokesman Peter Wilson.

“Obviously, this is happening because they’re successful,” Wilson told the Daily News. “They’re successful because people are being caught off-guard. They don’t always work, but when they do, it can be for a lot of money.”…
