A fire in the basement of a Washington Square commercial building damaged a restaurant and wine store this week, and both say they will be closed indefinitely.
Firefighters responded to 1665 Beacon Street, the location of Burro Bar, shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning after a passerby saw the fire, according to Brookline fire chief John Sullivan. The fire department was able to quickly extinguish a fire in the basement of the business, which was unoccupied, and there were no injuries, he said.
“The fire was contained to the basement of the structure with only moderate damage to the physical building itself (mostly contents),” Sullivan wrote in an email to Brookline.News. “Our investigation unit is still working on determining the exact cause of the fire but at this time it doesn’t appear suspicious.”…
