According to MassLive, a longtime destination for mid-century modern vintage furniture lovers in Dorchester is preparing to close its doors. The showrooms at Machine Age, home to hundreds of carefully preserved vintage furniture and décor pieces, are set to shutter as owner Normand Mainville prepares for retirement.
Mainville has spent the past 34 years tracking down and selling distinctive mid-20th-century furnishings, with pieces dating primarily from the 1930s through the 1970s. The shop, located at 121 Boston Street on the Dorchester/South Boston line, was originally expected to close in November 2025, but steady interest from customers has kept it open into early 2026.
Once the storefront officially closes, Mainville plans to move the remaining inventory to a specialized auction house in Chicago, where the pieces will be sold to collectors and bidders nationwide. Until then, shoppers still have a chance to browse the showroom during limited hours, Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. — or by appointment via phone or email…
