HINGHAM — Did a Brockton school cop fake timesheets? His lawyer told a judge the case against his client won’t go to trial.
Darnell E. Campbell was scheduled to go on trial in Hingham District Court on Wednesday, Jan. 21. But his attorney, Bill Connolly, told Judge Francis V. Kenneally that he and prosecutors have “spoken extensively” and that “we don’t think we need much more time” to reach a deal that avoids a jury trial.
A prosecutor said the Commonwealth was ready for trial. Assistant Plymouth County District Attorney Victoria Wood joined Connolly in asking for more time to review materials the defense recently turned over.
Case likely to end without trial
Kenneally had some stern words for both sides. “I have jurors waiting,” said the judge, who noted the case was 487 days old…
