The storm that wouldn’t quit, finally has. Thanks to two cycles of snow, we managed to crack the top 10 all-time snowstorms in Boston!
This was a remarkable feat after such a long snow drought in previous years. Other select locations also saw nearly two feet in some spots after the last flakes moved out overnight.
Aftermath of the snowstorm
We’re left with plentiful sunshine and fewer places to walk and park. Temperatures remain on the cold side over the next few days. Beware of pockets of drifting snow as this very airy snowpack tries to “migrate” across roads, fields, and frozen bodies of water.
With such a thick snowpack around, we will fall well into the single digits above and below zero in the coming mornings, making it feel like an arctic tundra across all of New England.
Another major snowstorm on the way?
We’re in quiet spell, but not a quiet pattern this week. Already, we are following the trends for the next storm this weekend. Guidance is bullish on developing a massive nor’easter off the Eastern Seaboard. While track uncertainty looms large, we also know that it wouldn’t take much to get wrapped up in a storm of this size. Even a glancing shot would have a big impact.
AI guidance has been doing fairly well with long-range storms this winter. This one is no exception. Some AI projections give us WELL over a foot of snow with very high winds. The stakes are higher with this event, since it could tack on coastal flooding and blizzard conditions if we get the storm to hit us square-on…
