Quincy Firefighters Put Out Two Fires

Quincy firefighters extinguished two house fires within hours of each other on Saturday.

Firefighters were called to the first fire at 35 California Ave. in West Quincy just after 7 a.m. after there were multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire, interim Fire Chief Gary Smyth said. Firefighters arrived to find a two-and-a-half story, wood-frame duplex with heavy fire showing from the rear exterior, extending into the interior of the first and second floors.

Just before firefighters arrived on scene, a propane tank attached to a gas grill on the rear deck exploded while the deck was on fire. The explosion sent the grill hurtling over the rear fence and into a nearby park…
