SANDWICH, MASSACHUSETTS – A harrowing single-vehicle rollover crash on Route 6 left a young man seriously injured and prompted a swift emergency response, including a helicopter airlift to a Boston trauma center.
At around 9:30 p.m. last evening, State Police, Sandwich Police, and Sandwich Firefighters rushed to mile marker 56.8 westbound just after the incident was reported. Upon arrival, responders discovered a heavily damaged SUV that had veered out of control while traveling westbound, crashing violently and flipping over the highway median before coming to rest on the eastbound lanes.
The driver, described as a male in his early to mid-20s, was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe multi-system trauma, according to radio transmissions. Despite his injuries, he was said to be conscious and alert while at the scene.
