A 59-year-old Colombian national, Lina Maria Orovio-Hernandez, has been convicted in federal court in Boston of multiple identity theft and fraud offenses after living under a stolen identity for more than 20 years.
She obtained a Massachusetts Real ID and eight other state-issued identification cards using the stolen identity, applied for a United States passport with false information, and received over $400,000 in federal benefits unlawfully.
These benefits included $259,589 in Section 8 rental assistance from October 2011 through January 2025, $101,257 in Social Security disability payments from July 2014 through January 2025, and $43,348 in SNAP benefits from April 2005 through January 2025.Orovio-Hernandez also submitted a fraudulent voter registration in January 2023 and cast a fraudulent ballot in the November 5, 2024, presidential election using the stolen identity.
