These Might Be the Most Intense Food Challenges in Massachusetts

Feeling hungry? How much pasta do you think that you can eat in one sitting? Italian food is one type of cuisine that I definitely tend to overindulge in, especially when it comes to the delicious food at Boston’s outstanding North End restaurants. But I’m not sure that I would ever be able to complete a food challenge involving this heavy of a meal. However, if you happen to be someone who excels at the art of competitive eating, you may want to head to La Famiglia Giorgio’s Ristorante, where you can take part in some of the most intimidating food challenges in Massachusetts.

Inside La Famiglia Giorgio’s Famous Challenges

This is not the first time that I have written about La Famiglia Giorgio’s Ristorante, and it probably won’t be the last. I’ve been dining here for decades, not just for the mouthwatering pasta, but also for the gigantic portions, all of which look minuscule when compared to the amount of food that is involved in the restaurant’s epic food challenges. But this favorite North End eatery doesn’t just offer one challenge, but rather four of the most difficult eating contests in Boston. All challenges are listed on the restaurant’s menu as regular dinner options. Participants must finish the entire plate in one seating, but do not have a specified time limit to do so.

Perhaps the Most Intimidating Food Challenges in Massachusetts

The first of the four challenges at La Famiglia is the outrageous Lasagna Challenge. Contestants must eat approximately six pounds of the special lasagna of the day. To put this in perspective, my first child weighed less than this at birth. I personally love lasagna, but this challenge is a hard no for me.

Meat lovers may be up for the next option, simply called the meatballs and sausage challenge. A plate of six sausages and eight meatballs doesn’t sound like it would be too difficult to eat, right? Maybe so, but the challenge also includes three pounds of pasta.Again, way too much food for me.

Challenge number three is the Chicken Parmigiana Challenge, which also includes three pounds of pasta as well as six chicken cutlets. But it is the final option, Lil Al’s Challenge, that I find most intriguing. This enormous dish includes three pounds of my favorite type of pasta, gnocchi. I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I probably could consume most of this pasta, but possibly not finish the additional four chicken cutlets and a side of broccoli.

Has Anyone Actually Beaten This Challenge?

Although many patrons attempt these intimidating pasta challenges, only a select few actually complete the epic endeavours. But what happens if you do eat all this food? Stuffed finishers are met with instantaneous fame and lifelong bragging rights. They are also rewarded with a well-deserved commemorative t-shirt that proudly reads, “I ate the plate!’

As for me, I will certainly be returning to La Famiglia Giorgio’s, but I plan to order a meal of a slightly smaller portion. While I won’t be leaving with a winning t-shirt, I’m sure that I will still have leftovers to take home. And that is enough of a reward for me.
