He killed a man at 19 and married a Boston city councilor in prison. Now he’s walking free

A former Boston city councilor’s husband has been given an unexpected second chance after killing a man in 2000.

When Tanzerius Anderson was 19, he shot and killed Inaam Yazbek on March 25, 2000. Anderson, now married to former Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson, took full responsibility for the man’s death during his parole board hearing on Aug. 12, 2025.

“I’m filled with grief. There’s nothing I can do to return the beloved family member. I only have my sincere contrition and obligation to repair as much as possible any fractures my deplorable behavior has caused,” he said during the hearing.
