Brockton murder victim’s family reacts to arrest after 327-day manhunt

On Thursday, Feb. 12, 327 days after their 18-year-old daughter, Cevannah Alvarez, was shot and killed near Brockton’s Westgate mall, the Alvarez-Bush family finally got the call they had been waiting for.

It was around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday when Caitlin Alvarez and her husband, Alex Bush, got a call from a familiar number. On the other end of the line, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office delivered the news they had been waiting for every day for nearly a year: “We apprehended him.”

Caitlin started crying, Bush told The Enterprise in a phone call on Monday, Feb. 16. They both couldn’t believe it. After 327 days, authorities had captured Davinci Leonard, the now 23-year-old Brockton man accused of fatally shooting their daughter just days before her 19th birthday…
