Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was the first and only American mayor invited to participate in the Munich Security Conference, the world’s “leading forum for international security policy,” held from Feb. 13 to 15.
Wu, along with Kyiv, Ukraine Mayor Vitali Klitschko and Warsaw, Poland Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, participated in an all-mayor panel entitled “Mayors on the Frontline,” which addressed how cities can effectively govern and maintain democracy in a complex world.
“I am here, a little bit far away from home, to make sure that I am representing our city in this very important time,” Wu said at the panel, according to a video posted by the Alliance for Local Leaders International, which hosted the event. “[I’m] learning from others who are doing incredible work and also sharing a message that Boston is still open for business.”
Wu has seen her national profile rise over the past year due to her strong opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration.
