Inside malls and outdoor shopping plazas across New York this past week, local news outlets reported hundreds of teenagers flooded the areas in so‑called “takeovers.”
Organized through social media posts, the large and suddenly forming groups were “chaotic” — they smashed shop windows, acted “loud and aggressive” and attempted to break into stores after owners locked their doors. At least 27 people have been arrested or taken into custody between the incidents, according to CBS News New York.
