‘Haverhill is not South Boston’: Police crack down on parking space savers after blizzard

Boston residents are known for their creative use of traffic cones, folding chairs, statues and other items to save parking spaces after snowstorms. But one Massachusetts city is reminding residents they are not allowed to replicate the tradition.

“Haverhill is not South Boston,” the Haverhill Police Department wrote on Facebook following a blizzard that dumped more than 30 inches of snow in parts of the commonwealth.

The police department included photos of people using various items as space savers but stated “that practice is not permitted in the City of Haverhill.”

“We know you put in the hard work, but there is no right to claim a parking space on a public way,” the police department wrote…
