A Massachusetts Army National Guard Major and dedicated Boston firefighter, Maj. Mark Garcia, was wounded in a devastating Iranian drone strike on March 1, 2026, at a U.S. tactical operations center in the Shuaiba port area near Kuwait City, an attack that claimed the lives of six American service members and left dozens more injured with wounds including brain trauma, shrapnel, and burns.
Garcia, who serves with Engine 50 in Charlestown as part of the Boston Fire Department and is a member of Boston Firefighters IAFF Local 718, was present at the site during the explosion. He is currently receiving medical care and recovering at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, with expectations from Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey—who spoke with him recently—that he will return home safely in approximately two months.
