Prosecutors: New DNA evidence ties former Stoughton officer to woman’s death

STOUGHTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Prosecutors are pushing back against a former Stoughton police officer’s request to be released from custody months before he’s set to go to trial in connection with the death of a woman he’s accused of sexually exploiting.

Matthew Farwell, 40, of Easton, was arrested in August 2024 and charged with killing a witness or victim following the suspicious death of Sandra Birchmore.

The 23-year-old Canton woman was 8-to-12 weeks pregnant when she was found dead in her apartment back in February 2021. Farwell has also been charged with causing the death of a child in utero…
