Charges dismissed but Chelsea officer remains unable to work in law enforcement

Prosecutors dropped charges last year against a Chelsea police officer who had been charged in connection with a domestic violence incident, court records show.

Officer Michael Villanueva was charged with a felony count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor count of assault and battery on a family/household member in connection with an incident last July. Roughly two-and-a-half months later, Suffolk County prosecutors dropped the charges.

A spokesman for the district attorney’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the decision. Chelsea Police Chief Keith E. Houghton also couldn’t be reached…
