Faneuil Hall pub closes after more than 50 years in business

A popular pub across the street from Boston’s Faneuil Hall has closed after more than half a century in business.

Clarke’s, which opened in 1975 at 21 Merchants Row, closed its doors for good on Saturday, April 17, the Boston Globe reported. One of the bar’s owners, Stephen Miller, told the newspaper the owner of the unit foreclosed in June and while he and the other owners tried to buy it at auction, the price was too expensive for them.

“After more than 50 years, I think the time has come,” Miller told the Globe. “The downtown area is still not back to where it was prepandemic, and I just don’t think it’s going to happen for a while.”…
