Chelsea Knife Standoff Near Daycare Ends With Quiet Surrender

A tense standoff at an apartment on Chestnut Street in Chelsea wrapped up peacefully Tuesday after officers confronted a man armed with two knives near a neighborhood daycare. Nearby homes were briefly ordered to shelter in place and the daycare was evacuated as a precaution while police locked down the scene. The man eventually surrendered, was taken into custody, then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for evaluation, and police said criminal charges are expected.
