SALEM — A judge ruled Wednesday morning that an 18-year-old high school student accused of killing an older woman while she slept in her home in Danvers is not competent to stand trial, a determination prosecutors intend to challenge.
Judge Randy S. Chapman made the determination after reviewing a report from clinicians at Bridgewater State Hospital, where Anthony DeMayo has spent roughly six weeks since his arraignment in March.
DeMayo, a senior at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, is accused of breaking into 69-year-old Janet Swallow’s home through a window and stabbing her multiple times on March 11.
