First Alert issued for Thursday as storms head for New England

Heads up! Some much needed rain is headed to New England this week. In fact, some of the rain could be heavy at times.

Thursday is a First Alert. A frontal system to our west will push some beneficial rain over much of New England, including the Greater Boston area. This rain will be a welcome sight for many, as the current U.S. Drought Monitor reports moderate drought conditions over much of eastern Massachusetts and the Cape, with severe drought conditions over parts of New Hampshire and Maine.

Well, this Thursday, let’s have the rain gear handy. Periods of heavy rain are possible as the rain moves in, likely around the Thursday morning commute. Some ponding on the roads can’t be ruled out, but major flooding is not expected. Parts of central and eastern Mass. could see more than an inch of rain while areas to our north, especially over Maine, could see up to two inches of rain. So, stay weather aware as we approach Thursday.

A shower could linger into Friday. Otherwise, we’ll see mostly cloudy skies…
