A Sunday morning shoplifting call at South Shore Plaza ended with one suspect in custody and two others sprinting for the highway, according to Braintree police. Officers said the fleeing pair ran toward nearby ramps and were seen trying to get into vehicles near the Braintree Split. Authorities said they did not believe the public was in danger and that the investigation is still underway.
In a Facebook post, the Braintree Police Department said the incident started as a reported shoplifting inside the mall. One person was arrested while two others took off on foot and “attempted to enter multiple vehicles” on ramp areas next to the Braintree Split. Massachusetts State Police and the Quincy Police Department assisted Braintree officers, and investigators remain on scene following leads.
